Apple juice has almost no fiber. Most commercial apple juice is filtered, which removes the pulp and skin where an apple’s fiber is. A cup of clear apple juice has less than half a gram of fiber, compared with about 4 g in a medium whole apple. Here are the numbers, how different types compare and how to get more fiber from apples.
Quick answer: One cup (240 ml) of clear apple juice contains about 0.5 g of fiber. Cloudy or unfiltered juice has a little more, and blended whole-apple “juice” keeps most of it. A medium apple with skin has about 4.4 g of fiber, nearly 10 times more.

Fiber in Apple Juice vs Whole Apples
| Food | Serving | Fiber | Calories |
|---|---|---|---|
| Clear apple juice (filtered) | 1 cup (240 ml) | About 0.5 g | About 115 kcal |
| Cloudy / unfiltered apple juice | 1 cup (240 ml) | About 0.5–1 g | About 115 kcal |
| Blended whole apple (not strained) | 1 cup | About 3–4 g | About 100–120 kcal |
| Whole apple with skin | 1 medium (180 g) | About 4.4 g | About 95 kcal |
| Apple without skin | 1 medium | About 2 g | About 80 kcal |
Why Juicing Removes Fiber
Apples contain two kinds of fiber. Insoluble fiber (mostly cellulose in the skin and flesh walls) adds bulk and helps regularity. Soluble fiber, mainly pectin, forms a gel that can help lower LDL cholesterol and slow sugar absorption. When apples are pressed, most of both stays in the pulp. Commercial clear juice is also filtered and often treated with enzymes that break down pectin, so almost none is left.

At home, a masticating juicer or a centrifugal juicer also separates the pulp. If you want to keep the fiber, use a blender instead: see how to make apple juice with a blender, and save the pulp for baking with our juice pulp ideas.
Does Apple Juice Still Help You Poop?
Sometimes, yes, but not because of fiber. Apple juice contains sorbitol and a high ratio of fructose to glucose, which draw water into the gut and can loosen stools, especially in children. That is why pediatricians sometimes suggest small amounts of apple or prune juice for constipation. Read more in is apple juice a laxative? and how much prune juice for constipation.
How Much Fiber Do You Need?
Adults need about 25 g (women) to 38 g (men) of fiber a day, or about 14 g per 1,000 calories (Dietary Guidelines for Americans). Most people fall short, and fruit juice does not help close that gap. The guidelines recommend that at least half of your fruit comes from whole fruit.
How to Get More Fiber from Apples
- Eat whole apples with the skin on.
- Blend apples into smoothies instead of juicing them.
- Choose cloudy, unfiltered juice if you buy juice, and keep it to a small glass.
- Add grated apple to oatmeal, salads or yogurt.
- Pair juice with a high-fiber food, such as whole-grain toast or nuts.
Is Apple Juice Still Healthy?
In moderation, 100% apple juice provides fluid, potassium and some polyphenols, and many brands add vitamin C. But it has about 24 g of sugar per cup and little fiber to slow it down. Limit it to about 4–8 oz a day for adults and follow age limits for children. Compare options in best apple juice and apple juice vs orange juice.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does apple juice have soluble fiber?
Very little. Most pectin stays in the pulp or is broken down during processing, especially in clear juice.
Does cloudy apple juice have more fiber than clear?
Slightly more, because some fine pulp remains, but it is still far less than a whole apple.
Is apple juice good for constipation?
It can help mildly because of its sorbitol and fructose, not its fiber. Water, fiber-rich foods and activity are the main remedies.
Does apple juice have electrolytes?
It contains potassium but little sodium. See does apple juice have electrolytes?.
